Issues with my account
Posted by Irata0062, 11-09-2004, 02:46 AM |
I have a reseller account. It runs me $20 a month with like 40GB space and 4000 transfer or something like that. Mostly for my sites.
I am sure I am getting what I pay for but lately the connectivity has been dropping. Usually only for a few minutes but it's happening a few times a week.
I've gone to the only other host I have ever used to check costs but they use a X amount per month plus discounted plans setup. Is that more standard for the industry?

Firstly, have you contacted your hosting provider to inquire about the connectivity problems? Are you sure it's not relative to your own internet connection provider? If you have any kind of routing equipment, you may find that to be the problem as well.
Secondly, that's not really standard per se. Most companies price out using some sort of formula (e.g. actual cost + profit, etc.).

If you are paying 20 bucks a month for 40GB of space and 4000GB of bandwidth something is seriously wrong. That's far too much stuff for such a low price.

What type of sites are you hosting? If the involve that much bandwidth it must be a pretty pouplar site . You might want to think of finding a more reliable host.

Your host is seriously overselling to the extent that connectivity will drop and drop. Things will only get worse, not better.

Oh G*d
40GB ? and 4 GB bw ? man this is to balance between those
well anyways , the quality of the server will go down if you oversell too much. and for such a price you shouldnt expect good service tho ...
i would contact them or install a uptime script , to see how long its been up
my 2 cents
btw: if you need that script right away just pm me

Xlusive, I believe its 4000gb of transfer not 4000mb.

We don't really have the unit of measurement for the data transfer allowance. I agree though that I too get the feeling it's the same as the one for space.

4000 GB BW per month ? NAHH you would need lets see ,
"basic math" correct me if i am wrong
10 mbits unmetered prices around 100 / 150 $usd /month
100 mbits unmetered prices 1500 / 2000 usd $ month
150$ - 20$ monthly = WOW 130 USD in "profit" for the owner
man this is so unreal i think he means 40 GB lol
how in *** would the host survive, i bet they are overselling so many that hey will eventually crash into dust.
my 2c's

Sorry, I was in the process of dragging myself to bed when I wrote that. Let me correct the numbers.
4GB space
40GB bandwidth
Unlimited domains, pops, mysql, FTP, maillists, etc
No, I do not have popular sites. I have a few of my own and host a few for friends.
I have contacted them when I have the connection problem, but they always check it after it's back up.
